Sweet mustache pic

Well since the last update I have the new cross bike built up and it is sweet and it rides really really well. In all the years I have raced cross I have only ridden a few bikes but this bike is easily the best bike I have ridden. The only problem is that I haven't been riding to fast so having a sweet light fast bike doesn't really matter when your ridding slow, the end result is getting spanked in Gloucester and almost getting lapped. That aside, I raced two weeks ago here in Durango and set up a cool course and actually had a decent race but Travis and Todd were there so I ended up 3rd but I was able to battle it out with Travis for most of the race.
On to this past weekend where I raced for the ol' Fort at Collegiate MTB Nationals. When we arrived to Banner Elk I pretty much had a chubby because it was raining and super muddy. When Ben, Noah and I went out to pre-ride I was just pulling away from Ben the whole time, so knowing that my own team mate was going to be my biggest competition I thought I could maybe win. As the day progressed The rain slowed and a couple hundred more collegiate riders rode the course turning the course into peanut butter which left the sections of the course I was riding fast into speed walking sections. On to race day first of all it was a really early wake up, for some reason I couldn't fall asleep until 2 Thursday night and we had to wake up at 5 so waking up with only 3 hours of sleep hurt. We headed over to the course around 7 and started warming up in the pitch black. When 8 am rolled around the sun finally poked it's head out and the gun went off. Ben and I tagged along by Scott Stewart from Lees Mcrae led the first half of the lap until Scott disconnected from the Germans fierce pace. I knew the race was going to be tough when I would be riding descent and Ben was running next to me going just as fast. So we came to the fire road climb to the finish and he throttled me on the climb and gapped me by 25 seconds in a half mile. On the next lap I started riding to fast for the technical sections so I started flailing and I came through the start finish and Ben had 3 minutes. So on the third lap I rode my own race and came through the start finish only 1:20 down on Ben but at the same time Ben heard I was getting closer so he hammered. On the last lap I was given'er but with at least 60 lapped riders to go through I was crashing a lot trying to get around them and started to take my time so I could conserve my 2nd place and came through the finish in 2nd about 6 minutes down....ouch. But that was good for the team because we had a first and second already. SO I waited to see my other team mates come in and they did well coming in 7th and 12th.
The next day was the STXC. Ben and I got screwed on our start positions and had to start in the last and second to last rows. So we had to hammer through the field and finally on maybe the 5th lap we made it to the group of 2nd-8th. Ben kept going straight through while I had to rest a bit. In the end Ben was 2nd and I ended up in 5th with another Fort rider in 4th who was lucky enough to start in the front row, and Noah rode well finishing in 9th. In the end we garnered a lot of points for the fort helping the team win the team omnium. That night we partied hard and had some good fun I was able to pull out some Break dancing moves which is always a good time.
Well this weekend I'm off to Boulder for some UCI cross races, we'll see how that goes.
Later,
